I’m a Digital badge skeptic

I am a bit skeptical about Digital badges working within the status quo of the Irish (and international academic environment) .

What is really rewarded teaching or research?  will institutions respect a badge system? Would it be aligned to promotional systems, ie moving from lecturer to senior lecturer

However I think that things are changing…certain academics have established themselves as ‘academic entities’, marketing their skills and providing consultancy, for example Mick Healey, Steve Wheeler, Eric Mazur

They have used blogs, twitter to establish their ‘brand’ , marketing the skills they offer,
Academic life will become more mobile where academics will no longer belong to an individual institution for life, and develop their own mobile portfolio (possibly made of badges) that they transport with them cross institutionally. So badges could certainly feed into that…..

Will establishing oneself and own interests be the future of learning development

establishing yourself
