Yesterday the DIT Showcase of Learning & Teaching Innovations went really well, with lots of positive feedback from the day.

Professor Brian Norton, President of DIT addressed the showcase audience and thanked the keynote Professor Sally Brown for her inspiring keynote on Assessment: “Assessing more students: ways of using productive assessment with large numbers”

Professor Norton talked about the learning and teaching environment at DIT where innovation in teaching is no longer an addition but now very much embedded within teaching. We have realised that technology is not a primary solution and that focussing on appropriate pedagogies is key to successful student learning.

Then Professor Norton introduced Blathnaid Sheridan, recipient of DIT’s 2010 President’s Award for Teaching Excellence. She introduced her ongoing project in Maths support as “Towards a Successful Maths First-Year Experience for Students”.

At the close of the day’s events Michael Mulvey, Director of Academic Affairs named the recipients of the Clicker award projects. We now have 10 clicker award projects. The lecturers in receipt of clickers will integrate clickers into their teaching throughout the Spring semester. A number of clinics to support lecturers are now being arranged and I am really looking forward to working with lecturers on this!
